Most people do not understand the difference in pronunciation of these two words; they are not both pronounced like “macaroon.” Macarons are French, and anyone who has studied the French language knows that the French do not have the “ooh” sound in their language, but rather an “aw” sound, asin the word “gone.”

What is a macaron made of? A macaron is made by combining icing sugar and ground almonds into a fine mixture. In a separate bowl, egg whites are beaten to a meringue-like consistency. The two elements are then folded together until they are the consistency of "shaving foam", and then are piped, left to form a skin, andbaked.

Do macarons need to be refrigerated? French macarons are very fragile and they should be kept refrigerated. Macarons are extremely sensitive to moisture in the air. If you plan to keep them for more than 3 days, store them in airtight plastic containers in the refrigerator. They will keep for up to 7days.

How much should I charge for macarons? A single macaron costs about $0.18 to make at home,-whereas a bakery version can set you back up to $4 per cookie.
