Shrinkage of leather caused by heat. Leather canshrink and harden by excessive heat. Typical example of this is damaged car leather along the top of the rear backrest, the headrests and on dashboards. Leather also hardens because it dries out with time (without leather care).

Why does leather discolor? Light, body oils, dust, dirt and temperature can affect the pH balance in leather, accelerating surface wear. This causes a slow loss of color in the leather. Microscopic bits of thecolor come off over time, giving that leather sectional sofa a faded look.

Is there anyway to tighten leather? If you have a leatheritem that you need to shrink, the easiest approach is to soak the leather in water, then dry the item in the sun or with a hairdryer. The combination of moisture and heat will tighten up the fibers of the leather, causing it to shrink somewhat.

Is there a way to shrink leather shoes? If you have leather shoes that fit a bit lose, what you need toshrink them is a bit of water in a spray bottle and your trusty blow dryer. Once you have your shrinking items, spray your shoes generously but don't soak them. Afterward, simply dry your shoe with the blow dryer set in medium.

Does alcohol shrink leather? Leather shrinks due to several different factors. Rubbing alcohol strips the leather of any protective barriers and allows the water to soak deep into the pores of the leather. Using a water andalcohol mix is a much more effective way to shrink leather than simply using water alone.
