Lighting Above a Kitchen Island

  1. Measure the length of the island/table in inches. Example: 60" wide.
  2. Determine how many pendants you want and the diameter of each.
  3. Subtract the combined diameter from the length of the island.
  4. Add 1 to the number of pendants.
  5. Divide your subtracted value by the number of pendants.

Can you put a round chandelier over a rectangle table? A chandelier, pendant/suspension, or non-linear multi-pendant light fixture make sense over a round table. A linear suspension or linear multi-pendant light fixture make sense over a rectangular table. While you wouldn't want a linear light over a round table, you could use two round lights over a rectangular table.

How big should an entry chandelier be? For higher ceilings of 11 to 16 feet, an entryway chandelier can range between 27 inches to more than 40 inches tall. If a ceiling is two stories tall, the foyer chandelier should be larger and composed of two or three tiers to properly wow your guestsvisually.

How low should a chandelier hang in a living room? Hang chandeliers at least 7 feet above the ground in living rooms and entryways with standard 8-foot ceilings, and hang them around 8 feet high with taller ceilings. If the chandelier hangs from a 2-story ceiling, don't let it hang lower than the height of the first floor.
