Is plywood more expensive than MDF?

Plywood is more expensive than MDF and of course, the higher the grade and depending on the species of wood, itcan increase in price. It's more difficult to cut detailed designs into plywood (scrolled, scalloped, etc.) because the edges will splinter and the edges that show layers may have voids in some places.

How do you speed up MDF? A: Yellow glue and screws make solid joints in MDF, Bob, but not just anyscrews. Bear in mind that this material has less screw-holding power than solid wood or plywood, and tends to split. When joining 34 " MDF, we recommend using #8 deck screws (featuring straight shanks and deep threads) at least 1- 12 " long.
