Very tiny, this weevil is only about 1/16-inch long. The adult is dull reddish-brown to black, with four reddish-yellow spots on its back. The larvae aresoft, white grubs with no legs. Pupae are similar to adults with long snouts, but they are white.

How do you keep bugs out of rice? Store rice, and all other grains, in tightly sealed containers made of metal, sturdy plastic or glass. Weevils and other grain bugs can chew their way through plastic bags and cardboard boxes. Clean your pantry shelves, including any cracks and crevices, regularly. Vacuum thearea, too.

Do Rice weevils fly? Biology. Adult rice weevils are able to fly, and can live for up to two years. Females lay 2-6 eggs per day and up to 300 over their lifetime. The female uses strong mandibles tochew a hole into a grain kernel after which she deposits a single egg within the hole, sealing it with secretions from her ovipositor.

Can weevils eat through plastic? You can see where the weevils chewed through the plastic. Due topast insect problems, we're diligent about storing all foods in glass jars or plastic zip-top bags. Unfortunately, grain weevils (Sitophilus granarius, also called granary weevils or wheat weevils) can chew through paper and plastic packaging.
