Diagnostic Trouble Codes or OBD2 Trouble Codes are codes that the car's OBD system uses to notify you about an issue. Each code corresponds to a fault detected in the car. The code will help youto identify and fix the issue within the car. Each trouble code consists of one letter and four digits, such as P1234.

Will check engine light reset itself? A check engine light will shut itself off if the condition that causedit is remedied. So, if your converter is marginal, and you did a lot of stop-and-go driving, which creates high demand for the converter, that may have turned on the check engine light.

What does a stored code mean? Active codes (aka STORED codes) are live codes or malfunctions that are keeping your Check Engine Light on. Just because your Check Engine Light is off doesn't mean the code or malfunction disappeared, it just means that the code setting conditions haven't occurred for two or more operations of the-vehicle.

Where can I read car codes for free? Most auto parts stores will have an OBD-II scanner on hand to check the OBD-II PID service codes, and will do it for free.
