Open Seam. Sewing's most common seam is the open seam, also known as the basic seam. Clothing, quilts, pillows, dolls, and crafts can and_will probably be made from it. A seam with an open hem is made by placing fabrics right sides together with their seam lines touching.

What are the uses of seam? The seam is a line formed by stitching two layers of fabric together. Used as functional purpose. Some time used asdecorative purposes. Sewing machines are widely used in the production of modern clothing, footwear, house hold textiles, and sporting goods with a variety of industrial seams.

How do you join two pieces of fabric together? Sewing two pieces of fabric together:

  1. Line up the 2 pieces of fabric and pin together.
  2. Make sure the fabrics are smooth and aligned properly before sewing.
  3. Sew together. Thread your machine if necessary.
  4. Clip the excess threads.
  5. The seams should be ironed open or to one side (depending on the thickness of thefabric) to flatten them.

What is the difference between hem and seam? Edges are hemmed when they are rolled flush to themselves, while seams join the edges of two materials. Hems are commonly used toreinforce edges, hide burrs and rough edges, and improve appearance.
