PrimeA few of my other favorite primers are KILZ and Zinsser. When you choose a primer to paint laminate, just make sure it says for shiny surfaces. One coat is sufficient but you can do two coats if you prefer. If the primer is not adhering to the laminate properly, you'll notice it looks uneven and-bubbly.

Can I use spray paint on laminate furniture? Can I use spray paint over laminate wood furniture? It is possible to obtain good results when painting over laminate wood furniture. The first step is to lightly sand the surface with a fine grain sand paper. Then remove all dust from the sanding process and apply a quality primer, such as GliddenGripper.

Can you paint over a laminate? You can sand, prime and paint laminate as if it were a solid wood piece of furniture! It's easy to skip the sanding step, because sanding is a drag… but it's especially important with laminate. Because it's often somewhat glossy-looking, and important to sand it down until the finish is very dull before priming.

Can you use Kilz primer on laminate? I always use Kilz primer for laminate and have had great luck with it. For painting laminate furniture, you want to do at least 2 coats of primer and let them cure completely (overnight if you can! ) in between coats. Using Kilz Primer for laminate furniture is your best bet.

Can I use water based primer on laminate? You can use the water based version by Zinsser in the blue can, but you really need to sand your surface beforehand, and you also must wait for the water based version to fully cure, which is a recommended 7 days. Zinsser's oil based primer dries in two hours, so I was able to apply two coats of primer in one day.
