In one study, all the bulbs in an LED light string remained fully lit after 4,000 hours of use, whereas one or two bulbs in an incandescent light string burned out before half that time. A main reason LEDs are so long-lasting is because unlike incandescents, they don't have filaments which can heat up and burnout.

How do I know if my strings are led? Put your thumb directly on top of a bulb. If it is almost hot to the touch, it will be an incandescent bulb. If it is almost cool orbarely warm to the touch, it will be an LED light.

Why are some of my LED Christmas lights dim? The chances that a failure with the string would cause ALL of the lights to go dim is very low. If there were something wrong with the first string that reduced the voltage to the next two, then all, but still just one problem. Drag an extension cord out there with some real power and test each string.

Why are there 3 wires on Christmas lights? Removing a bulb (or twisting it until the wires break) removes the shunt as well, so they all go out. These lights have three wires to carry electricity from end to end so that strings of lights can be daisy-chainedtogether.
