Putting up Christmas decorations early can improve your mood, according to scientists. Psychoanalyst Steve McKeown explained toUnilad that decorating for Christmas brings up feelings of nostalgia and can evoke strong feelings of childhood. People who decorate the outside of their homes are also seen as more friendly.

Why do we put presents under the tree? But when it became possible to get bigger trees from Norway, people began to put their trees on the floor, with presents underneath. The reason that fir trees are traditionally used is because they are evergreen, which means they are still bright green with lots of leaves - even during thewinter.

When should Christmas decorations be taken down? When you take your decorations down depends upon when you put them up, but 6 January is a good marker - and the feast of the Epiphany, when you can celebrate the coming of the Good News to all.

What does the Christmas tree have to do with Jesus? Then legend has it that a fir tree grew out of the fallen oak. "That became a symbol of Christ — being triangular in shape it represents the trinity — and from there came the idea that the tree should be a symbol of Christ andnew life," Dr Wilson said.
